Collabrio's FounderCollabrio's founder Lenka Los is a veteran in the executive search industry with a reputation and track record of success built on experience gained with leading international firms, and a commitment and understanding of her clients.
Almost a decade ago Lenka waded into uncharted territory recognizing Cleantech as a burgeoning "sector" and launched a practice addressing the needs of these nascent industrial companies. A true generalist, Lenka has conducted a multitude of executive level searches for an incredibly diverse portfolio of clients. In addition, Lenka has become a tireless proponent of the sector, connecting the dots between centres of excellence and innovation, funding agencies and incumbent industries. Returning to her entrepreneurial roots, Lenka launched Collabrio to focus on providing growth-oriented ventures and established companies alike – across the many industries she has come to know – access to both human capital and other resources. A natural innovator and entrepreneur, Lenka has also introduced novel approaches to search within her own practices. More than a decade ago Lenka led a pilot program for Deloitte, introducing the ‘in-house’ model to one of the firm’s national practice groups. Under a separate brand Lenka provided talent management to high-potential business professionals from top consulting firms and marquee companies, and, as a practitioner, her expertise was put to further use rolling out Six Sigma recruiting practices for CIBC. |
Q & A with our FounderQ : Collabrio is an ‘interesting’ name for a search firm. What prompted you to choose it?
A: The concept of collaboration is appearing in the zeitgeist of day-to-day commerce on an unprecedented level. You can’t read the business news without seeing the word crop up at least a few times. It’s timely. It denotes a changing paradigm in our business as well. I have always felt strongly that recruiters should not be viewed as the hired guns but as advisors and facilitators. With our fantastic network we are also in the position of being enablers of broader success. The cornerstones of successful partnerships are communication, cooperation and commitment. Collabrio is modern and evocative of the spirit in which we like to work with clients. Q: You mention a changing paradigm. What do you mean by that? A: With nearly 30 years of experience in the search arena covering almost every conceivable industry sector you create a vast network. Obviously that network is the foundation of a successful search practice. That same network though is invaluable as a resource to companies of all stripes which have broader needs beyond talent. We are the access point to those resources. Q: That almost sounds like a sort of brokerage. What prompted that shift? A: That’s actually a pretty good term for it. The shift came about quite naturally. It evolved as I got to more involved with the innovation economy. There is tremendous potential within this sector but in reality it is fundamentally challenged. Start-ups are notoriously underfunded and constantly bootstrapping. In that environment bringing in full time executives is often not an option. There are other priorities like finding boards and advisors, getting access to key industry contacts and potential partners, and of course private capital. Having access to all of these players in the innovation economy I felt there were additional ways to put my contacts to use. |
